1.What is mulch?

Mulch is a layer of material applied to the surface of soil.

2.What are the benefits of mulch?

  • Conservation of Soil Moisture;
  • Improving Fertility and Health of the Soil;
  • Reducing Weed Growth; and
  • Enhancing the Visual Appeal of the Area.

3.Where do you add mulch?

Mulch is applied to the soil surface, around trees, paths, flower beds, to prevent soil erosion on slopes, and in production areas for flower and vegetable crops.

4.When is the best time to mulch?

Normally, mid- to late spring is the best time to put down mulch.

5.What color options are there and what is the best option for me?

There are three basic colors for mulch: black, brown and red. If you plant dark foliage or dark green colors, almost any mulch color works. As a general rule of thumb for flowers, pick a mulch color that does not work against the color of your blooms. For example, white flowers look beautiful with red mulch.

Amount of mulch needed is determined by the cubic yard of the desired area to be covered. Best practice is to provide 2 inches of mulch on top of the soil. We provide two tiers of mulch options–tripled shredded or premium–in your color of choice. Mulch is locally sourced.
